Do What You Love and You’ll Never Work a Day

Friends, I want you to meet someone very special.

This is Trish, a flight attendant with American Airlines. Most of us meet people like Trish for only a few hours, but those few hours can shape an entire journey. Flight attendants are the smiling faces who welcome us aboard, help keep us safe, calm our nerves, and somehow make thousands of travelers feel cared for while moving through the skies.

But that isn’t what makes Trish extraordinary.

When Trish was just 9 years old, she dreamed of becoming a flight attendant. Like many childhood dreams, it could have faded with time. Life has a way of changing our plans, introducing new goals, and leading us down unexpected paths.

Not for Trish.

That dream stayed with her, grew with her, and ultimately became a remarkable 50-year career.

As passengers, we often see only a small glimpse of the people serving us. What stood out to me about Trish was that she didn’t see us as passengers at all. She saw us as guests. From her warm welcome to the handwritten note she shared with me, every interaction reflected genuine kindness and hospitality. Somehow, while ensuring everything was ready for a safe departure, she still found time to connect with the people around her.

It’s easy to understand how someone can spend 50 years doing something they truly love when they bring that much heart to it.

I couldn’t help but wonder what 9-year-old Trish would think if she could see herself today—still taking to the skies, still living the dream she first imagined as a little girl, and now celebrating an incredible 50 years of service.

Trish, thank you for your kindness, your dedication, and the joy you brought to my journey. It was an honor to fly with you during this special milestone.

And thank you for reminding all of us that sometimes the dreams we have as children really can last a lifetime.
